Adriane Mayes is a Detroit original. Not just geographically, but spiritually. Detroit is a city that knows what it means to be counted out — to watch the world move on, and to rebuild anyway. From the inside out. Brick by brick. On faith and stubbornness alone. That city shaped everything about who Adriane became: the resilience, the realness, the refusal to leave people behind.
She grew up understanding two things early: that money was either a tool for freedom or a trap for those who never learned how it worked — and that young people, especially Black young people, were too often left out of the conversations about building real wealth. The community she came from was full of talent, full of drive, and dangerously short on financial education.
Her education was Detroit through and through. She attended St. Robert Bellarmine before moving on to Detroit Ludington Middle School, and then to one of Detroit's most celebrated institutions — Detroit Renaissance High School. At Renaissance, Adriane wasn't just a student. She was an athlete. She played basketball, ran track, and played volleyball — competing at a level that would open a door most people only dream about.
And all throughout high school, she worked. While her peers were just getting by, Adriane was making sure she had money in her pocket — earning her own, learning the value of self-sufficiency early, building the muscle of hustle long before she ever heard the word entrepreneur. That work ethic wasn't a side note. It was the foundation everything else was built on.
That combination of intellect and athletic excellence earned Adriane a full basketball scholarship to Murray State University in Kentucky. She played women's basketball her freshman year. Then, in her sophomore year, her extraordinary athleticism opened a second door — she transitioned to a women's track scholarship, competing at the collegiate level in two different sports. Not many people can say that. Adriane can. She didn't just attend Murray State. She earned her place there — twice — on the court and on the track.
At Murray State, she didn't just compete. She studied. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Electromechanical Engineering — a rigorous, technical discipline that demands precision, systems thinking, and the ability to solve complex problems from the ground up. Then she kept going. She earned her Master of Business Administration in Management and Marketing, also from Murray State University.
Think about what that combination means: an engineer's mind trained to build systems and solve problems, layered with a business strategist's understanding of markets, people, and growth. And she was ready to use it. After Murray State, Adriane landed an internship with General Motors — one of Detroit's most iconic companies — preparing for an engineering career that made complete sense on paper. She had the degree. She had the internship. She had the roadmap.
Then her cousin called. Chris Bosh had just been drafted into the NBA. He was headed to Toronto. And he asked Adriane to come with him. Just like that — in a single phone call — the engineering career path dissolved, and a completely different life opened up. She said yes. She moved to Toronto. She stepped into a world of professional sports, international cities, and community impact at a scale she hadn't imagined. It was a dream come true. And it was the first of many moments in Adriane's life that proved a truth she now teaches to everyone she mentors: opportunities don't always knock on schedule — and when they do, you have to be ready to move. Change happens fast. Your preparation is what makes you capable of saying yes when it does.
That tension — between potential and access, between the plan and the calling — would become the thread that runs through her entire life. Every business she built, every course she created, every live she hosted, every person she mentored would carry the fingerprint of that original conviction: that ordinary people deserve extraordinary tools, and that nobody should have to figure it out alone.

She co-founded Community Connect Consulting (CCC) and the CCC Because We Care Foundation — founded on September 11, 2009, a date chosen with purpose to transform tragedy into action — building community programs focused on education, healthy living, mentoring, tutoring, and fighting hunger and homelessness in Detroit. She raised scholarship funds. She did public relations for nonprofits. She ran Smile Don't Blink Photo Booth, a small business bringing joy to events across metro Detroit. A serial entrepreneur, through and through.
One of the most defining seasons of Adriane's community work came through her collaboration with her cousin, 2-time NBA Champion and Basketball Hall of Famer Chris Bosh and the Chris Bosh Foundation. Together, they brought life-changing programming to young people across multiple cities — Toronto, Dallas, Detroit, Atlanta, Dayton, Tallahassee (FL), Montgomery (AL), and Jackson (MS). These weren't photo-op appearances. This was real, sustained investment in communities that needed to see what was possible when a world-class athlete and a passionate community builder joined forces. For Adriane, it was confirmation of everything she believed: that access, mentorship, and the right room can change the entire trajectory of a young person's life.

She chose differently. On November 20, 2023, Adriane began her sobriety journey. That date — November 20th — is not just a number on a calendar. It is, in her own words, a constant reminder of the rebirth of her mindset and who she is. A second birthday. The day she chose herself, her clarity, her legacy over everything that had been holding her back.
Today, Adriane is 836+ days sober — and counting. She counts up, not down. She starts with the end in mind. Because every single day she wakes up and chooses sobriety, she is adding to a legacy.
